Currently, some B2R coalition members are working to develop a list of targeted House of Delegates Democrats to be unveiled at a later date. Which House Dems do YOU think should be on the target list, why do they belong there (other than them being a D), and are there Republican candidates already in the race or potential candidates waiting on the sidelines to take them on?

Off the top of my head, we came pretty close to beating Paul Nichols, Chuck Caputo and David Poisson (sp?) in a very bad environment in '07, so I believe they should be on that list. In addition, Ward Armstrong and Joe Johnson represent very Republican districts in Southwest Virginia, and keep an eye on Shannon Valentine's seat. While she's a tough candidate, if we can get Liberty students to turn out to vote in full force there, she could easily be very vulnerable.
Great picks there, Peter. Most of those names had been bandied about by our crew before, with the exception of Joe Johnson. We were also looking at the following as possibilities:

House Dist. 21 - Bobbie Mathieson

House Dist. 45 - David Englin

House Dist. 74 - Joe Morrissey

House Dist. 83 - Joe Bouchard

House Dist. 87 - Paula Miller

Ward IS vulnerable in his district, IF we find and SUPPORT a quality candidate. The real issue is support, Ward could have been dispatched several cycles ago if his opponent at that time had received just a bit more support from the Republican Caucus. Ward is not very popular on the ground here, he is generally perceived as having a very elitist attitude and he is obviously sucking up to the NOVA Democrats. Folks here don't like either one.
