Dear Friends,

Last year I campaigned for Congress on the platform of fiscal responsibility, opposition to corruption and the need to get our economy moving. Those issues are even more critical today.

Consider how Congress has gone out-of-control on spending:

A staggering one year Federal budget of $3.6 trillion, nearly half of which ($1.7 trillion) is financed by debt.
$787 billion stimulus law that has done nothing to slow unemployment or spur economic growth.
A cap-and-trade boondoggle that contains massive taxes that will hit Northern Virginia families.

The numbers are mind numbing. And that doesn't even include the trillion dollar health care bill being debated!

This Congress has blown through spending records without even reading the bills they are voting on! And this spending has not slowed the growth in unemployment. Rather, it's creating economic insecurity. Northern Virginia families are hurting and Congress has no answer but more spending.

I had hoped that Gerry Connolly would learn from his mistakes. He drove Fairfax County's budget into a $648 million ditch of red ink. Then he moved across the Potomac and has continued being a rubber stamp for runaway wasteful spending in the trillions.

We have to say NO to the politicians and special interests who are pushing our nation into bankruptcy. We need to encourage, not burden, small businesses so they can hire people and help our economy grow again.

Because Gerry Connolly has proven he is incapable of addressing the challenges Northern Virginia families face, I have decided to run once again for the 11th Congressional District.

The hard truth is America faces enormous challenges. We are mortgaging our grandchildren's future with this spending and massive debt. It jeopardizes our jobs, economy, retirement, homes - our entire way of life.

I've created jobs. I've tackled tough budgets. In Congress I will put the brakes on the spending, curb the special interests and focus on getting our economy moving again so our children and grandchildren will have an America as great as the one we inherited. I ask for your support.

Supervisor Pat Herrity asked Fairfax County to study spending $100,000 for a Redskins Hall of Fame Museum.   Now we all want the Redskins to do better, but in these tough budget times, should we spend tax money on a Redskins museum?

During a recession with Fairfax County facing budget cuts to core services like transportation and education, Supervisor Herrity wanted to call an audible on the budget and divert taxpayer money to a pet project.  Herrity talks tough, but he is just another big spending politician.

While Herrity was proposing wasting taxpayer money on a Redskins museum, he voted with liberal Democrats to raise the real property tax rate by 13% in one year! Supervisor Herrity has voted for over 25 Democrat-backed tax and fee increases

Taxpayers ought to throw a penalty flag for excessive celebration on Gerry Connolly and other liberal Democrats who Herrity aided with his votes for their tax hikes.

Pat Herrity promised to spend our taxes wisely, but he wanted to spend $100,000 on a Redskins museum.  Voters should punt on Herrity.

Fimian Statement on Centreville Day-Laborer Site

Fairfax, VA – Keith Fimian, Republican candidate for Congress (VA-11) issued the following statement today regarding the proposed day-laborer site in Centreville:

“With plans for a day-labor center moving forward, I join with Centreville residents and business owners in opposition. As well intentioned as proponents of this project may be, it sends entirely to the wrong message to people who have, in many cases, broken our laws to be here and invites a host of problems including increased potential for crime in the area.”

“If the federal government would just do its job, states, localities and well intentioned citizens would not be left with the responsibility of figuring out what to do with illegal immigrants. The rule of law is a fundamental underpinning of our way of life and our system of government. Unfortunately most of the career politicians in Washington love to write new laws, but lack the resolve or good judgment, or both, to enforce existing ones.”

“There are a lot of commonsense steps we can take to address this problem, including securing our borders by whatever means necessary and having police check the immigration status of anyone arrested for committing a crime. Above all, we must make sure career politicians like Gerry Connolly, who are eager for millions of new voters, are not successful in their efforts to grant amnesty to illegal immigrants whose very first action was breaking the law to enter our nation.”

“If Connolly’s record as a member of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors is any indication, he will enthusiastically support amnesty. During Connolly’s tenure on the Board, the Associated Press reported that the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors dedicated $400,000 ‘to establish three facilities that serve as gathering places for illegal immigrants to offer their services’ at a time budget deficits were soaring. County supervisors have been raising property taxes ever since to pay for this type of reckless spending. Even worse, back in 2007 Connolly told the Washington Post that ‘under no circumstances’ should police check the immigration status of someone suspected of a crime.’”

“We need to prevent the establishment of a day-laborer center in Centreville and defeat career politicians like Gerry Connolly who aid and abet law breaking. Supervisor Herrity has not made his position on this issue publicly known. Despite having referred to Prince William County's efforts to enforce immigration laws as 'mean-spirited' in the past, I hope Supervisor Herrity will make his position known and do everything he can to stop this day-laborer center."

I belong to both Pat and Keith's groups and want you all to know we are ultimately all in this together to win in November. I've got the bulls eye on real obstacle, GC.

The health care forum set up & sponsored by Fimian was fabulous. We need Keith Fimian to win the 11th District seat in congress in 2010 - he will be able to use his business experience to get us out of this deepening fiscal mess!
