May 25, 2009, Fairbanks, Alaska - Governor Sarah Palin today read a Memorial Day proclamation to honor military members at Veterans Memorial Park in Fairbanks. The governor also signed Senate Bill 45, which establishes an Alaska veterans' cemetery near Fairbanks. SB 45, sponsored by Senators Gene Therriault and Charlie Huggins, directs the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs to pursue the creation of a U.S. Department of Military and Veterans Affairs-approved cemetery where veterans can receive their full burial rights.
"On this Memorial Day, we remember, honor, and give thanks to those who died in service to this nation," Governor Palin said. "Today, we honor all of the brave men and women of our armed forces who made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of the freedoms we hold so dear."
