New Technology for RPV Network Members

One major issue in the last election was the perceived absence or limited use of new social technologies by conservatives. The purpose of this group is to introduce conservatives to these technologies and their use.

It is extrememly important that we build our county party by increasing membership. Please attend and bring like-minded friends, neighbors and family to the Fairfax County Republican Committee January meeting on Jan. 22nd at 8pm at West Springfield High School. Details are posted under the Events section of this network. See you there!

That's not a bad thing. You want new posts showing up in the RSS feed, like headlines in a newspaper.
Comments, like letters to the editor in that paper, are perhaps better handled via email update to a Gmail account, with an RPVNetwork label in place, and a filter to pipe all the RPVNetwork traffic right into that label. This is what I do, and it is at least one good way to manage high traffic volumes.

Ok, enough fooling around with this RSS feed for this group. It appears that it only provides updates when a new discussion is posted. It does not post comments so you would still have to come back here to see comments. Long story short, you can get RSS feeds for this group but only for their initial posting but not for submitted comments updates. If anyone knows different let me know. Thanks, Ken

All, I updated the group settings to enable RSS reader. Not sure how this works but will let you know if I am able to get something meaningful.

I'll try out the Zoho sheet later today. What a great find, Ken. This may just be the solution to posting voting records online. I'll keep the tech team posted on how it works out! Thanks, Ken - we're one step closer to the Promises in Politics piece getting posted.

Deborah,
Nice, a really well balanced web presence for yourself and Suffolk County. I look into adding a Twitter presence with RSS feeds from your blog sites.

I just looked into Zoho sheet and created/uploaded the following (free I might add) via a Google or Yahoo account.

Good Luck!

I'm with you, Marti! There's so much to learn and bringing everything together is the challenge. Here are the things I've been working with thus far:

Blogger: Here are two examples of what I'm working on (Both are DRAFTS).
www.suffolksolutions.blogspot.com
www.insidesuffolk.com

Windows Live (which I really like)
This is the newest piece I'm working with, but thus far I am very pleased.
Check my DRAFT page here. This site has built-in features that I really like, but I haven't figured out how to preview my LIVE page yet. If anyone knows how to do this, please let me know. The calendar in this is easier to work with than the Google Calendar (which is what I used in the Inside Suffolk blog above).

FaceBook
See my attempt - simply to see if I liked it:

UStreamTV

Microsoft Expressions (which will replace FrontPage)
Go to www.SuffolkVAGOP.org to see the DRAFT of a website I'm working on for us.

Constant Contact (I also really like this email piece)
I've used this program a lot and love it! This is a system that will also allow people to add email addresses so you can build a HUGE EMAIL LIST. (And we all know how important that is.)

You Tube
Of course!

Zoomerang Surveys (not free, but good) Blogger has a polling capability as does Windows Live.

Of course the challenge: not one tool does it all. We'll use Constant Contact for emails/phone blasts, etc., etc. We really want to make our party more visible in Suffolk.

I cannot wait to learn more from this terrific group!

Referring back to Brad Smith's of 12/7: I have found vpap.org (not to mention the State site) to be difficult to navigate. I like the Gov.Trac site mentioned by Chris--is there something similar for Virginia alone?

Help! I've been tracking the voting records of Council members for the past two years and set up an Excel spreadsheet that shows everyone's voting records. (I also want to do this for the Planning Commission, Economic Development Authority, and School Board members.) I would like to post this online - and be able to change it online - so it is more of a dynamic document. Does anyone know how to do this?

We're putting together a Promises and Politics piece to track how our elected officials are doing.

I signed up for Facebook about 5 days ago and I really like it. I've made sure that account and RPVNing dump into my gmail acoount for quick access. Figuring out how to effectively coordinate FB, RPVNing, Twitter, etc. into a coherent way is my challenge right now.
