Purpose:

We are building a more durable Veterans Coalition in Virginia. One which will span multiple election cycles and hopefully have more impact on the political scene. We are open to all Virginia Veterans AND ACTIVE DUTY TROOPS. You DO NOT have to be a member of the Republican Party, but it is encouraged. We expect that most Veterans generally agree with the Conservative message of the Republican Party, although we are not always in "lock step" with all candidates and all issues. So, if you consider yourself an Independent or even a conservative leaning non-partisan, we welcome you to this RPV Network Veterans Coalition.

Comment by Ted Kirkpatrick on November 4, 2009 at 9:30am: Don't forget the Manassas Veteran's Day parade at 11 am, Saturday, 7 November in Old Town Manassas. WW II vets are going to be the guests of honor and several dozen of them will be marching in the parade.

Comment by Tom Whitmore on October 23, 2009 at 9:49pm: Don, On Constitutional issues I haven't seen much change, you must be referring to social issues, which in retrospect, I believe many of us have either softened a bit or have become more tolerant over the years.

However speaking realistically to get elected explain how it seems McDonnell is going to become our next governor through his quite concerted effort to campaign more towards the center? His political makeover immediately became apparent after narrowly winning the AG slot.

Competing for statewide support no doubt McDonnell learned it required appealing to a larger audience than his former Tidewater base. And, touting his Northern Virginia roots was tactical if we wanted to win although the message was obvious to portray himself as unlike what our party has become known to represent or not represent.

Do not want to get into a debate other than to say if the GOP is going to start winning elections again it just may have to redefine itself as McDonnell has learned and done.

Comment by Tom Whitmore on October 23, 2009 at 1:13pm: Don you are right about it being an American thing, equal rights are guaranteed by our Constitution, even for our servicemen and women, unfortunately there are those who would like to bend the Constitution or change it to suit their own agenda. You can call them what you may, but American that is not!

Like it or not our political system has evolved to a right and a left, the defenders of the constitution and the proponents of change. The middle can be dangerous ground. On the one hand we enjoy the freedoms and rights we have fought so hard for, on the other they increasingly disappear under the guise of more freedom!!

When we work too hard to find the middle ground we can get lost, as John McCain found out in the last election.

I have never forgotten my oath to defend the Constitution, nor will I. It has served this country well, it has allowed this fledgling country to soar like an eagle among countries, the greatest on earth. Who in their right mind would want to break from that, and for what goal?

Are we to be made to feel shameful because our founding fathers plan worked the best of all the countries and governments on earth. Are we to adopt the failed policies of other countries or enter into treaties to share our wealth? I think not!! Let us remain the shining beacon amongst the countries of the world, and should they desire freedom and wealth such as ours then let them learn from our success and follow our example.

Yes I am an American and I fall solidly on the right, and feel no compulsion to apologize for that. I love my country, and don't feel a need to change it. I do not feel a need to reach some middle ground either. What we have, has worked incredibly well and there are no examples of anything that works better, so I would have to question the true motives of anyone promoting change that would impinge on any of our freedoms.

The very fact that we had to have a court order to affirm the right to have every servicemens vote count, tells me that we are at war. The lines break down between those that would defend our freedoms and those that would steal them away. Reach across the aisle? Sure if it's to swat them up side the head and knock some sense in!!
