There is absolutey no doubt about what the Founding Fathers intent was with the 2nd Amendment. it is evidenced over and over in their writings:

"Firearms stand next in importance to the Constitution itself. They are the American people's liberty teeth and keystone under independence." --George Washington

"[T]he people are not to be disarmed of their weapons. They are left in full possession of them."
--Zacharia Johnson, speech in the Virginia Ratifying Convention, 1788

"We established however some, although not all its [self-government] important principles. The constitutions of most of our States assert, that all power is inherent in the people; that they may exercise it by themselves, in all cases to which they think themselves competent, (as in electing their functionaries executive and legislative, and deciding by a jury of themselves, in all judiciary cases in which any fact is involved,) or they may act by representatives, freely and equally chosen; that it is their right and duty to be at all times armed."
--Thomas Jefferson, letter to John Cartwright, 1824

I congratulate those of you that are arming yourselves. I have been around firearms all my life as have my children. The key is respect for the weapon and the knowledge of how and when to use it.

I received my first Daisy Red Rider at age 8 and my passion for marksmanship started there. I was taught to shoot in the Boy Scouts by my Scout Master, a 4 time National pistol champion and who is currently the Secretary of the NRA. The issue with handguns and children is EDUCATION!!! If you have a gun(s) in the home with young kids, you must educate them that this is NOT a toy and NOT a TV show. I usually started my childrens education at 4 years old with a 12 gauge, a slug and a gallon milk jug filled with water at 10 paces. Hearing that roar and watching that jug explode will take any thought of playing with guns out of their mind. I have raised 3 young children to adulthood, and have 2 young ones now with never an issue with any of my guns. Let us work to educate gun owners so that our 2nd Amendment rights are used to protect us and not harm our loved ones.

I never allowed guns in my home while I had small children, either, and never really had any desire to own a gun. With the erosion of our liberties in recent years, and a failing economy, there have been more break-ins in my neighborhood. Our children are grown now and out of concern for the safety of my family, my husband and I decided it was time to be prepared to protect ourselves. We took our gun safety course here:

It was taught by a former law enforcement officer. We now have permits to carry concealed.

As a 12/13 year old I was a member of NRA and took shooting lessons in the summers with the Police Athletic League. However, like Anke I have never allowed a handgun in my home, but we're empty nesters now and I am in the process of purchasing one for self-protection. I rejoined NRA yesterday and have registered for a safety/shooting class. I will admit that the current administration's attempt to curtail the second amendment rights is driving my timing.

A couple of weekends a month I work the VCDL table at gunshows. Look for me at Chantilly, Dale City, Fredericksburg, Harrisonburg, or Fischerville. I own too many guns and would be happy to sell a few dozen to responsible citizens (if your tastes coincide with mine). Until then I will continue to put tight little clumps of holes in paper.

I think the administration will not directly try to ban guns, the last time when Clinton signed the gun ban, the mid term elections decimated the democrats. They will not make that mistake again. They will do it in much more subtle ways, make ammo more expensive, make primers a hazmat item, etc.

Yep, I got my daisy BB gun around 8ish maybe. At 12 I got my Marlin .22 rifle. It holds 19 rounds so it would actually be considered an assault weapon and it is semi-automatic, like that's the worst thing in the world!

Lets remember there is a reason the founders put the second behind the first and this forum is the reason!!!!
