There is absolutey no doubt about what the Founding Fathers intent was with the 2nd Amendment. it is evidenced over and over in their writings:

"Firearms stand next in importance to the Constitution itself. They are the American people's liberty teeth and keystone under independence." --George Washington

"[T]he people are not to be disarmed of their weapons. They are left in full possession of them."
--Zacharia Johnson, speech in the Virginia Ratifying Convention, 1788

"We established however some, although not all its [self-government] important principles. The constitutions of most of our States assert, that all power is inherent in the people; that they may exercise it by themselves, in all cases to which they think themselves competent, (as in electing their functionaries executive and legislative, and deciding by a jury of themselves, in all judiciary cases in which any fact is involved,) or they may act by representatives, freely and equally chosen; that it is their right and duty to be at all times armed."
--Thomas Jefferson, letter to John Cartwright, 1824

NRA=Negotiatig our Rights Away-A waste of money and time.(I am a life member) I was a member of vssa also and found thier work for youth and shooting sports to be good but thier legislative skills to be limited.

vcdl.org is the group that makes things happen in VA. GOA at the national level.

As for HR 45, it currently has no other sponsors beyond the originator of the bill. Any member of congress can propose anything but requires support from others. Right now HR 45 has no support, so do not be too worried. It is being watched by the right people.

If Governor Kaine were truly concerned with the safety of all Virginians then he would have never vetoed these bills. How on earth is it safe to have some drunk lawyer with a gun and not safe for a well trained, law abiding, sober citizen to carry in an establishment that serves by the drink? I am ashamed of our Governor and excited at the prospect of him leaving the mansion. Everyone should contact their representatives today!

Governor Kaine's political career is over now. Anti-gun actions like this are not survivable. We need to pressure the Virginia legislature to override EVERY ONE of these vetos.

I just read the article on WorldNetDaily.com a moment ago and the order has been rescinded. Apparently the company commander had no authority to issuse such an order. However, I agree that we must be vigilant in protecting our rights.

Richard, I read the article on WorlNetDailty.com. Thanks for the heads up. Let's hope our soldiers stand up to their commanding officers when they command them to confiscate all the guns of citizens who speak of the constitution or has Gadsden flag, Ron Paul, Campaign for Liberty, Chuck Baldwin, Bob, Barr, Constitution or Libertarian sticker on their vehicle, and arrest them and charge them with "domestic terrorism" . When the MIAC
report comes to Virginia, anyone who is outspoken about a constitutional government is at risk of being charged. What is to become of this nation?

There's a great e-mail going around about a supposed true story in England about how their country gradually lost its gun rights and how it affected a current citizen.

I posted on our county GOP blog for your review- it's worth 3 minutes of your time to reflect and pass around:

I know this is serious business and I really appreciate that but did you know that pink 22's are available? Someone in our family got one for Christmas and was promptly enrolled in a hunter's safety class. When our son was ten and had gotten his first serious gun, he had to write out ten safety rules before he was allowed to shoot the gun. He did the same with his family. It is possible to teach even very young hunters how to be responsible gun handlers.
