There is absolutey no doubt about what the Founding Fathers intent was with the 2nd Amendment. it is evidenced over and over in their writings:

"Firearms stand next in importance to the Constitution itself. They are the American people's liberty teeth and keystone under independence." --George Washington

"[T]he people are not to be disarmed of their weapons. They are left in full possession of them."
--Zacharia Johnson, speech in the Virginia Ratifying Convention, 1788

"We established however some, although not all its [self-government] important principles. The constitutions of most of our States assert, that all power is inherent in the people; that they may exercise it by themselves, in all cases to which they think themselves competent, (as in electing their functionaries executive and legislative, and deciding by a jury of themselves, in all judiciary cases in which any fact is involved,) or they may act by representatives, freely and equally chosen; that it is their right and duty to be at all times armed."
--Thomas Jefferson, letter to John Cartwright, 1824

Tom, thanks for starting this group. The Second Amendment is the cornerstone to many of our political principals.

Richard: I think the NRA does a fine job with its safety courses. My husband and I just took one from a local chapter..

Don't take my word for it. Do some digging and research it before you commit.

Although, I love hunting, its not the purpose or reason I support the Second Amendment!

You can help. Remain vigilant.

Richard, I would suggest you back out of the NRA in favor of Gun Owners of America. The NRA has been hijacked by anti-gun leaders.

If the Supreme Court finds that the D.C. gun ban is a “reasonable” limitation of Second Amendment rights, the Court could create a dangerous precedent for the nation in the future. Such a decision could open the door to further regulation on American citizens’ Second Amendment rights on a large scale.

Obama's dance on gun rights is part of his evolution from the radical young Illinois state legislator he once was. He was recorded in a 1996 questionnaire as advocating a ban on the manufacture, sale and possession of handguns (a position he has since disavowed). He was on the board of the Chicago-based Joyce Foundation, which takes an aggressive gun control position, and in 2000 considered becoming its full-time president. In 2006, he voted with an 84 to 16 majority (and against Clinton) to prohibit confiscation of firearms during an emergency, but that is his only pro-gun vote in Springfield or Washington. This latest move, HB1446, requiring a person engaged in the business of selling ammunition to maintain specified records of sales of ammunition; requiring a person who purchases ammunition to present specified identification; requiring the Secretary of State Police to adopt specified regulations; establishing a civil penalty for a violation of the Act; etc.
