"Our freedom is from God, not government. Our prosperity comes from a free people in a free market, not overtaxing, free-spending bureaucrats. We celebrate and protect life, born and unborn. And our best hope for a brighter future is in the empowerment of individuals and families, not in the constraints imposed by a bloated bureaucracy. " -- Michael Steele
----------------------------------------------------------It saddens me to see how many moderate to conservative African Americans voted for Obama purely on the basis of ethnic pride. To win, the GOP needs to keep about 20% of Black voters in our column. In Virginia this year, McCain got only 5% -- one of the key factors in why the Old Dominion went Democrat for the first time since the 1964 LBJ landslide. We CANNOT concede the black vote to the Democrats.
African Americans are one of the strongest demographic segments of church-goers -- even those who tend to vote Democrat on economic issues are social conservatives with a small "c" and many will cross over if we get our message right. They're also strongly represented in the demographic of current and former members of the armed forces. People who believe in God and in fighting for their country ought to be OUR voters....
The Democrats don't have a monopoly on dynamic leaders who happen to be Black. Mike Steele has more experience in his pinky finger than the President-elect has in his entire being. As much as I love Sarah Palin and think she did a fine job, in retrospect I wish McCain had picked Steele. He's done a fine job as head of GOPAC and he's exactly the right guy to get the RNC in fighting shape for the 2010 mid-term elections and beyond.
Please encourage Virginia's RNC members to vote for Michael Steele at the January meeting - a principled Conservative from our neighbor state of Maryland who will get the job done!
