Just realized you never got a proper welcome, here goes...Welcome aboard, Roy! Thanks for joining the fight to turn Virginia red again. There are many seats we still need to change. Explore the site and jump in. Be sure to bring your friends along for the many battles ahead.
Looks like Donna beat me to it.
However, prowling around the HOD and VA Senate websites will give you a good deal of info. While you're at it, take a look at the *Committees* the members are on...
I'll try my best, but I may have to break what I know into chucks so I don't bore you to death. The basic Party unit in Virginia is the County Committee (or for incorporated cities, the City committee). These units determine the nomination process for those offices within their jurisdiction (supervisors, etc.) They also have representation on House Delegate and State Senate Committees that are entirely or partially in their area. There are also 11 Congressional District Committees that determine the nomination method for the 11 U.S. Congressional representatives from Virginia. The chairmanships of these are up for election this year. Finally, there is a body of approximately 80 people called the State Central Committee, who among other dujties determines how U.S. Senate candidates are nominated. This may be more or less than you wanted to know, so will close out for now.
