This is my first blog. Please be gentle.
I want to let those on the inside of campaigns to know how critical it is to have a professional driver take care of their candidate. I know some questions come to mind very quickly. Like:
" It will cost and arm and a leg to get my candidate around. I could use a volunteer."
- Yes you can. However, a dedicated driver will know how to get them there on time and dress professionally, and have a nice clean car for them to get there in. Also, think of what your candidate can get done if they are not driving. All those phone calls and speach writing. He can also offer a lift to that special VIP from one event to the next to give them some special one-on-one time. The other is very important. Your candidate needs rest. Why tire them out sitting in traffic. If you contact me I might just volunteer my time to help.
"What if the chemistry is not right?"
A professional driver knows when to keep their mouth shut and to offer advice only when asked. The last thing your candidate needs is another mouth in their ear.
"What can a driver give that a volunteer can't"
The driver pays attention to your candidate. They pick up on what your candidate likes to drink and eat. They spot people and things that might cause an issue for your candidate and lets the locals know about it. The driver probably has some military background and knows how to conduct themself.
"What about security concerns?
Again a professional picks up on those things and help get your candidate away from anything that could be harmful politically or personally. Very few drivers carry unless requested.
I hope this may help candidates and staffers. I have worked 4 campaigns now covering all of Virginia. 3 of them I worked for cost coverage only. If you have more questions, just let me know.
Good luck to all, God save and protect all those that stand between us and all those who wish to do us harm,
