Jeff Evans was born January 9, 1956 to Walter and Rilda Evans in Galax, Virginia. Jeff grew up in Grayson County, Virginia where he learned a strong work ethic. While in high school Jeff worked for local farms as well as Roses Department Store in Galax. At the age of 17, Jeff decided that it was time to serve his country and joined the United States Army where he served 29 months in Schweinfurt, Germany and received his high school diploma at Nuremburg American Independent High School in Schweinfurt.
After completing his tour of duty and receiving an honorable discharge from the Army, Jeff returned to Virginia and began seeking work. He immediately secured a textile job and also worked for a lumber company. While these jobs were paying the bills, Jeff wanted to accomplish more with his time and had a desire to serve the public more. Through this desire, he applied for the Virginia State Police and was hired soon after. Jeff served as a Virginia State Trooper from 1978 until retiring in 2002. While a state trooper, Jeff served the Commonwealth in Pittsylvania, Buchanan, and Carroll counties.
After his retirement, Jeff again sought a way to serve the community which he loved. This time, he was elected to the Carroll County Board of Supervisors where he served from 2004-2007. While on the board, Jeff also served on the county planning commission, 911 committee, public service authority, regional jail committee, and the solid waste authority.
In 2007, Jeff was encouraged by several business leaders to run for State Senate. Although 2007 was a tough year for Republicans across the state and he didn’t win, Jeff presented some strong arguments for spending reform, lower taxes, and business friendly laws to bring more jobs to Southside Virginia.
After his bid for Senate, Jeff was asked to move to Henry County and serve as Associate Pastor for Victory Baptist Church. He answered the request and moved his wife and daughter from Carroll to Henry and began his work with Victory.
While serving as Associate pastor at Victory, Jeff founded National Armed Forces Fellowship and started many helpful programs for the veterans of Southside Virginia. Through his leadership, the organization continues to provide free transportation weekly for veterans to the VA Hospital in Salem, Virginia as well as a free monthly dinner in honor of our veterans. Jeff has also been very instrumental in launching an urban outreach ministry in Martinsville, VA through his church.
Jeff has been married to his wife, Janet, for 32 years and has two children. Charity, 19, is completing a degree at Patrick Henry Community College and Aaron, 23, is a manager for a large business in Southside. Aaron is married to Joy who recently celebrated their one year anniversary. Joy is finishing a business management degree through Liberty University this year.
Jeff is a member of the VFW, Rangely Ruritan Club, Martinsville-Henry County Fraternal Order of Police, Gun Owners of America, and the NRA.
