Obama Pro-Abortion Policy vs. Social Security Debacle

CNN Politics blog notes that on the Roe v. Wade anniversary this week, President Barack Obama
affirmed his support for a woman's "right to choose."
As we previously reportedPresident Obama has included rescinding U.S. policy not to pay for the murder of foreign children in his 'pro-choice' plan.

While this policy trend is consistent with Obama's previous statements including his expressed conviction that unwanted pregnancy is punishment and the views of his NOW and NARAL supporters, in the larger view it is inconsistent with solving our looming Social Security Debacle.

As the Social Security Trustees have described and Heritage Foundation has analyzed, the net present value deficit of Social Security is large and growing.

One of the significant contributors to this deficit is an aging population. That is, more older workers and retirees and fewer younger workers to pay the taxes needed to fund the current and near future pensions. Having more younger workers would mitigate that deficit, but the policy of encouraging and funding abortions and contraceptives acts directly against the interest in having more younger workers. As House Speaker Nancy Pelosi admits today, a part of the economic stimulus package is ear-marked to pay for more taxpayer funded contraception.

Mr. Obama's policies and those of his party are both morally reprehensible, and act against the best interest today's children and the retirees of today and tomorrow.

While I am vehemently against abortion I would not go so far as to say that we need a population boom to solve the social security crisis. It is true, I agree that the problem is fewer people paying in and more taking from the system. This just highlights the fact that it is a Ponzi Scheme to begin with. As painful as it seems the idea of government funded retirement should be phased out entirely. People should be taught how to, and then encouraged to take responsibility for their own retirement planning.
