I strongly support Ken Cuccinelli, like I have in every race he has ever run in. If you are conservative and you have heard him speak, I don't have to say any more.
I'm supporting Dave Foster. Yes, Cuccinelli is conservative. No one disputes that. But the Attorney General job isn't about ideology. If you want to argue ideology, that's for the gubernatorial race. And, frankly, we need Cuccinelli in the Senate. He's won his seat twice and he's probably the only Republican who can hold the seat in 2011.
Brownlee is a better alternative, but he's never had to win a campaign. He's got ample experience for the job and he's got integrity.
But Dave Foster is, in my opinion, the best choice. The Attorney General is, for all intents and purposes, the managing partner of a huge statewide law firm, employing hundreds of lawyers and even more law enforcement officers. Criminal, civil, constitutional - every aspect of the law is touched upon by the office. Dave Foster is a partner a Fulbright and Jaworski, an international law firm with over one thousand attorneys and offices in sixteen countries. He knows how to manage and he'll be able to keep the AG's office running smoothly.
He's also demonstrated that he can win in Democratic areas, having been elected to the School Board in Arlington twice. Even though the office was non-partisan, he ran as a Republican. He knows how to win in tough areas for Republicans.
Overall, I think he's the strongest candidate to win statewide. He'll appeal to the broadest number of voters on both sides of the aisle, and that's the best way to ensure we win in November.
Well to respond to everyone at once:
I tip my hat to both Ken Cuccinelli and Dave Foster. Ken has been a great leader in the State Senate, and ran and won in Fairfax. Something the whole RPV should be proud of. As well as Dave Foster running as a Republican (when he didn't have to,) in Arlington. Another thing to be proud of.
While, Ken was proving his legislative skills, John Brownlee was proving his skills in the court room. Which is were I want my Attorney General to prove himself. Ken and Dave (more so Ken) has great experience for offices like Governor or Lt. Governor, but not Attorney General.
John is prepared for the office from day one. The number one job of Attorney General is prosecuting. Jim Gilmore, Bob McDonnell, were both prosecutors. The fact that he is a prosecutor, is what will win in November. The Democrats already have there candidate for AG, Steve Shannon. A Prosecutor. If we nominate anyone other than a prosecutor in May, I'm sorry but I think we will lose.
As far as John not running for any other campaign, that might actually help. People might see that this guy is interested in law, not politics. He has held office were it counts, in the U.S. Court System. Also, with Bob McDonnell and Bill Boling having the strongest ticket in years, John can pick up any potential loss from Bob and Bill coattails.
My second choice? Dave Foster. Why? The Triggerman rule.
Travis...It is refreshing to read your endorsement. ALL the right reasons. All the right trains on thought. I agree with everything you just typed. My gosh! Somebody actually "gets" it.
Wish your vision was contagious.
