Speaker Boehner suggests Congress would have approved the initial strike on Libya but that our involvement and goals hadn't been sufficiently articulated. Obama says, we'll soften up the target to let the other Nations then police the no-fly zone.
Here are the problems many conservatives have with this unprovoked attack http://www.nationalreview.com/articles/262547/unwise-and-illegitima...
Here is Obama's reasoning http://www.slate.com/blogs/blogs/weigel/archive/2011/03/21/barack-o... He says we'll be out in a couple of days http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748703858404576214032361...
Given this no-fly zone costs $300 million a week according military experts, we can't afford to sustain it and should leave it entirely to the coalition to succeed or fail within the week. I suggest we call our Representatives and tell them we want America out by the end of the week too.
We have the CR, the budget ceiling and the 2012 Budget coming up. Tea Party Patriots are thinking about an event of March 30th. There is also another event being suggested the following week. (The expiration of the temporary CR). Please let me know if you're interested in participating. Their suggested objective is to hold our Congressional leaders to the $100 Billion in cuts they promised in the CR and defund Obamacare. Rep Michele Bachman and Steve King have a defunding Bill that rakes back the money buried in the original Obamacare Bill. Here is the back up plan, that suspends implementation till Obamacare's Constitutionality is determined http://action.freedomworks.org/4188/tell-your-senator-to-vote-yes-o... There is clearly Republican support in stopping Obamacare. Here is Sen Mitch McConnell on Obamacare's one year anniversary https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3tjACYLwlyg&feature=player_embe...
The defunding of Title X (Planned Parenthood) and NPR are also suggested targets. Rep Jordan has presented a Welfare Reform Bill, a defunding of the mortgage modification program and more. Where in this process we could gain sufficient leverage to eliminate funding is an ongoing discussion. I personally do not think it unreasonable to roll back the $800 billion in new spending that Obama and the Demcorats have instituted.
Senator Rand Paul has introduced a five year plan to balance the budget. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e0vDNmE_M7E I've asked his office for a link to the Bill and will forward to you upon reciept. Please consider that with all cuts there will be movement on the State level to increase taxes to maintain programs and entitlements. A good example is changing Federal funding of Medicaid into reduced block grants that frees States to redesign, limit and reduce the eligibility of services they provide.
Federal cuts will more likely happen if we have presented legislation on a State level that reduces regulation, eliminates market manipulation and subsidy and funds minimal fully portable benefits, leaving all else to the individual and market forces that will produce a low tax environment where govt regulates and oversees but doesn't participate in the market as a competitor. This produces the best services, at the best cost and most convenience to the customer.
